I'm working in a big company and my task was to enhance a model from a co-worker of another team. The guy was not willing to share any code snippets (because according to him they are his) and he was even gatekeeping the data. When I talked with his team leader about the issues, he was sorry about it, but not willing to take any actions, because he is the only person on his team with knowledge about the model and cannot afford to lose him. Throughout my 3 years there I had many similar encounters, some because of laziness some because they want to remain the person in power. Honestly, it's just sad and against my principles (during my time in academia it was the complete opposite).
