Al Shabaab killed 70 people in Kenya last year, the most since [2019](https://www.garoweonline.com/en/world/africa/why-al-shabaab-attacks-increased-in-kenya). Al Shabaab killed 5 on April 29th in Mandera County with a IED in a carriage. They raided a town in/near Lamu on April 10 killing two civilians and killed a police officer with a grenade in Yumbis on the same day. They killed two police officers and one civilian on March 25 in Mandera.
*Edit: Also, Kenyan officers killed 6 terrorists a few weeks ago ([May 2](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/africa/kenyan-forces-kill-6-al-shabaab-terrorists-in-counter-terror-operation/3207599)) and the US have been increasing their support since January as Kenyan troops are pulling out of Somalia by the end of the year (this was announced in October of last year). The US has also targeted terrorists in Somalia this year, partly due to Somalia not going after them enough. March, 2024: https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy2168
