/r/econmonitor is probably the best sub in the finance/econ space, it's just not that active anymore though and I think it's mostly cuz the mod team was doing a ton of work and kinda got burnt out on it.

Unfortunately the pandemic and subsequently the whole GME conspiracy thing really accelerated a trend that was already happening, so almost every corner of reddit that deals with finance/econ is full of the same sort of aggressively ignorant but highly confident person. I just go to my local city subreddit and bullshit there a bit, then maybe bullshit in like /r/movies or /r/cars. It's just easier to get away from a lot of this garbage.
