No other sector has bigger explosive upside. Is the biggest opportunity in the market right now.
Most cannabis shitcos are machines of incinerating money right now. But most of them will be immediately profitable once re-schedule III finalizes this year, as it automatically removes section 280E which prohibites tax deduction of business expenses and bringing net operating losses (NOLs) forward to offset future taxes.
Cannabis companies were effectively taxed at up to 80-90%, sometimes even 100%. Once 280E is removed they will go from that to 21%, probably retroactively from 2024. Boom. From hopelessly fucked to profitable businesses in an instant right there.
Reschedule was announced on April 30. Stocks rose 30-80% with the news, some even doubled that day, but the sector has been so beaten up historically that this initial reaction was immediately muted by hedge funds that have been shorting the sector for years. Until they can't any more a la game stop... Shorting has been a profitable trade until now as pot companies were bleeding money because of 280E. This is about to change. Margins are going to multiply (see table in the image below).
Stock prices are today lower than when reschedule was announced !!!
280E should have more impact in earnings and cannabis stocks fundamentals than any other catalysts before legalization like up-listing or safe banking.
We are witnessing history. The first steps to cannabis legalization. New weed-stocks-millionaires will be made this year.
**Timeline for tendies:** reschedule open comment period is ongoing, it finalizes no later than July 22. They need it all done for votes before elections in November.
**Positions:**
* I have been selling a shit ton of monthly puts of MSOX all year cos it has the highest volatility of them all and pays nicely until they remove 280E and the sector explodes. Right now I still have some puts sold with strike 4 for 21st June and 19th July. * Now that reschedule is confirmed, I'm switching to OTM leaps of MSOX: calls strike 14 for 20th Dec'24 & 15th Nov'24. * MSOX calls strikes 5 and 6 for July 19 and Aug 16 as a way of playing comment period finalization before July 22.
There are a couple studies on which individual stocks are affected more by 280E, but as a yolo degenerate, I prefer to play it with leaps of MSOX as it gives maximum leverage/exposure. MSOX is the only 2x leveraged ETF out there.
**tl**;**dr:** Cannabis companies economics are about to dramatically improve because of better tax conditions after imminent reschedule.
