I don't remember using the phrase 'very accurate' - I would best describe them as 'the best measure we have' while you would call it fake which is an insult to everyone at the BLS who tries so hard working on it.

And if you want to measure house prices compared to incomes - you can, nobody is stopping you. But only 2-3% of people buy a house each year so I'd argue that metric is far less useful than rent and OER and 'meaningless' as you'd put it.
