I get the feeling many of the comments do not understand the assertion he is making. I do not think the premise is that there can never be a Chatbot that will ever have human-like intelligence, just that if/when that happens, it will not be done with the architectures used by the current generation of LLMs.
I have to say, my inclination is to agree with him. The transformer architecture of ChatGPT is a boil-the-ocean level of inefficient brute force attempt to fool us into believing something approximating human intelligence is going on. Don't get me wrong, I love being fooled ... but I think we can and should admit the limits of our current approach.
Are there any ML engineers who disagree with what he is saying?
