Honestly, any modern and fairly popular distro should serve you well. I've been using fedora (gnome desktop) and it is so beautifully simple and so easy to use. It is more MacOS than Windows but you can customise the look anyways if you need to. But I like their defaults. I actually prefer the user experience over windows, which for a long time has felt cumbersome to use. I don't know how to explain it exactly but it almost feels like Microsoft gave up with their UX and instead put all their resources into bloat and ads to squeeze money out of me.

Anyways, realistically, outside of specialised professional software and unfortunately a lot of video games, there's nothing else that you can't do with the same ease on Linux. You actually don't need to use the terminal at all for casual use as modern distros have fully fleshed out GUIs for everything.

I am quite handy with tech so I actually run both Linux and Windows on my laptop, so that I can still play games and use Photoshop... but I actually spend most of my time in Linux now. And it appears that gaming support for Linux is only going to increase, so I look forward to a day when I can just yeet windows completely
