I've used Linux in various capacities nearly as long as you have. I've been a professional software engineer for over a decade. And to be clear, Linux is fantastic for other applications, I'm specifically talking about end-user graphical desktop.

In practice this ends up as blaming the user for having the "wrong" hardware when they inevitably have problems and seek help. Even just having an nvidia card is often grounds for newbies to get ridiculed despite it being arguably the most popular GPU brand.

I've never had a single installation of desktop linux (EDIT: not counting devices that came with it from the OEM like the Steam Deck, as I said those are the exception) that didn't develop issues due to compatibility/updates/etc after a couple years at most, and if anything the overall amount of quirks/headaches has actually gotten worse in my experience if you're trying to use anything that isn't 4+ years old. Hell, last time I tried Ubuntu two years ago the installer couldn't even run without crashing on my local PC that had hardware that was already a couple years old.
