Exactly, at the risk of coming across snarky that's the problem, people (myself included) are dumb and stick with our preconceptions. Which is why data is what matters.
Yes when the data and survey disagree you should ask why that is and if there's an issue with the data, but it seems it's not the data it's people repeating media/social media. Just the other day there was a story that X% think the stock market is down for the year, all it takes is 10 seconds to see that's not true, if it actually impacts the person or not isn't the point, this is a simple fact but people just believe what they believe.
