Yeah, people always really seem to be confused about financial instruments in general.

They'll look at a real estate investment where a house was bought for 400k and then sold for 800k and be like, I made for $400k!!

While ignoring the closing costs, maintenance, property tax, interest payments on the mortgage, inflation, the average return that money would generate in the stock market.

When you equal it all out, they would have been better off in the stock market. And that's assuming the housing market doesn't weaken.
