Why would a company pay millions to develop a game that can then be copied and resold. What would possibly incentivize them to make this investment. These games take hundreds of people months to years to make, and can’t be replicated by a dude in his sparetime.
What advantage does “early hardcopies” bring? You can self publish these days with rapid turnaround. Or just put it on an e-reader. As soon as the text was available the author would lose any ability to generate a living from it. A textbook author for instance invests decades in education, research and writing. And someone in china can then just copy and distribute their work?
That the current patent system is abused by corporations is completely true. That is different than not having any patents. I am involved with this field, and have done publically funded research. The idea that private technology and biomedical research and development could be replaced by government research or volunteer research is laughably naive.
