I wish I never found them, but I did. I’m an 18 year old on a gap year who started saving for university. I have a job working at a bar and started to save up money. I then started diving heavy into memecoins (shitcoins) as it looked super lucrative. I thought, as long as I spend multiple hours everyday I’m bound to make a lot of money. With trial, error, and research I was able to find out everything to being a good trader on these coins. I can avoid/spot a rug more than 90% of the time, and have a pretty good understanding of what makes a good coin. At this point I was down about $1-2k but it seemed quite normal for someone learning, and I knew that now with my knowledge I’d make it back plus more. Here’s where it gets tricky. Even with all my knowledge and getting good coins I still lost money. The risk to reward on these coins are horrible, especially with how we buy them. The only people making money are the buy bots, and the lottery winners. When I put .5 sol into a coin and it goes up 50% you would think I profit .25sol. Nope, with all the fees and time delays on this time of trade I’d most likely just break even. The only winners in this game who earn millions off either a most likely lucky find, or credit to them an 75%luck 25% scouting for 10hours a day pull, are earning those millions off of thousands of people losing hundreds and thousands. The money has to come from somewhere. I then gave my hand at making a coin. This is where I really excelled. My coin was actually very good, I spend days on the art and sites, and launched it on pumpfun. It was such a good coin that it reached king of the hill. Every other coin on pumpfun is 99.9% a scam/rug, but I tried to be different. I had so much hope for my coin that was pushing that I started to invest in marketing and micro buys. Then it happened. Classic pumpfun, one early buyer jeeted their bag, which caused everyone on pumpfun since they’re all jesters to dump. I did everything right to show I wasn’t a scammer, I burnt most of my coins and pre put in an offer for dexscreener. Still, everyone dumped and I waited to be the last to sell. In total I’m now down about $7k (everything I made this year plus a tiny bit that wasn’t mine). I put this out not to say there’s no way of making money, but to be very careful in this space as there are a lot of liars and manipulation. I have so much stress from the money I lost so hopefully with this post I can prevent at least one person from going all in like I did.
