That could be it. I use the brokerage associated with my bank, so everything is cross fund with regards to mutual funds. Though they only offer a limited number of free equity trades a year, I assume to discourage active trading, so I also wondered if the mutual funds didn't fall into the same bucket as equity trades. But that could just be me being stupid, and it's the cross fund thing.
