It’s only a problem for Microsoft if they want to retain customers and not tarnish their brand name through all the security holes/exploitation that follows end of life for widely used software. For XP they released security updates at least twice after the end of life (last one was 2017, three years after the end of life, when WannaCry hit).

So they seem to care about it, but if they don’t care then it’s indeed not a problem for them at all.
