I think all these folks are missing the point. the question is not whether ai will reach human level intelligence (that's too general of a statement). the question is whether it will reach super human (all the great scientists/engineers/philosophers/artists etc). These models are ALREADY more intelligent than many of the humans I know. The average human is not very smart. so these models have already surpassed AVERAGE human intelligence. it's probably 90+ percentile, maybe more. the question is whether it will get to 95, 99, 99.99 percentile of human intelligence. I think we need to start having a more nuanced conversation about this.
