Good. We *should* be keeping vehicles longer. It takes an absolute fuckload of energy to produce one car. Think about every liter of diesel burned to mine all of the copper, iron, and aluminum alone, then truck it around, turn it into parts, truck it around some more, turn it into a car, truck it around some more…. The excuse government and lobbyists will use is “the emissions components are aging out and allowing excessive pollutants” has anyone ever done the real, full comparison of what that car outputs in years 5-10 of its life, versus how much emissions it takes to produce another whole car? I’d bet my salary that it takes 10 years or more for the average car to burn as much fuel as it took to make the car, Nevermind the actual pollution load given that the equipment producing the car doesn’t have the same regulations as the car itself.
