Most people don't care about stocks at all. If the market x4 tomorrow they wouldn't care and if the market x0 they wouldn't care because most people have no skin in the game. What people do care about is what the money they do have buys them and with inflation as high as it was/is that has gone down considerably.

To highlight this, many people eat fast food since historically it's cheap, fast, and kids love it and if we use McDonalds as an example their prices have 2x for most items since covid. This holds true in plenty of sectors (not always 2x but massive increases) and wages have not even remotely kept up. If anything it would be more surprising if people were happy with the economy
