Australia was already gradually moving towards independence before WW2 though. Hell the whole point of federation in 1901 in the first place was to give the various colonies some more autonomy in self governance. Prior to WW2 the UK was also actually giving Australia some responsibilities over some of their other nearby colonies, like Papua.

Australia Federated in 1901 and got domestic self governance as a result, gained control of foreign policy in the 1920s, full formal independence in 1942 (during the war), and finally complete legal independence in 1986 along with all the other remaining dominions. WW2 likely sped things up a bit, but in reality Australia itself wasn't really in a hurry for independence anyway.
