Wrong way to look at it. Lazy students will use it to cheat, just like I used Latin translations from websites to cheat on my homework in highschool instead of using the internet to help me learn. Plato talked about the invention of writing being bad for learning because they would not have to remember things anymore. I find the similarity in the argument quite striking.

Almost all students are eager to learn when they start school but get that beaten out of them by the school system. Teaching them how to leverage these tools to grow and learn can have a supersized impact on learning outcomes of all students. Using these tools to create super engaging learning environments will help them grow and learn. Maybe we can talk about the way we assess students capabilities. Our system of giving grades is mostly a result of us not being able to gather enough data on progress so we resort to semi-regular tests that put so much stress and pressure on learners and basically every study shows that this externilization of learning motivation is harmful to the willingness to learn (which is why the classic "you will get 5 buchs for an A" line of motivation is really bad for fostering curiosity and willingness to learn). This is not even mentioning how harmful the chronic stress is on learning that students face.

ChatGPT is not just a question answer tool. It can be, if you use it that way of course. I am 100% convinced that if we adapt the right way, this will benefit all students. I read a ton of literature on this, there is not much out there, but it is promising.
