Israel goes to war when it's attacked. Have you not been paying attention?

No one would argue that hamas has the capabilities to do so outright, but imagine if israel didn't have such effective air defense, and all those daily rocket barages got through. It would look a lot more like ukraine.

Israel has tepid peace with Egypt and Jordan, as well as was on the track to normalization with the princes, so you're right about the lone wolf thing to a point. That said, it's also the only democracy (flawed as all democracies are) surrounded by different flavors of dictatorship; Secular military, Islamic, ect.

It's a tragedy that civilians are harmed in war.

Hamas started that war by breaking a ceasefire. The government in gaza. Hamas doesn't wear uniforms anymore, it hides amongst the civilian population. This is why before every major Israeli operation, efforts are made to evacuate as many people from the area. To deny hamas its civilian shield.

Notice the numbers of civilian casualties have been halved in recent weeks? If you have any proclivity for this you would have known those numbers were always being inflated by hamas and it's mouthpieces, so as to get exactly the reaction you're having now "what about the poor innocents." It slowed the israeli response. Which honestly was running too hot, so not the worst thing, but still functionally, all you've done is buy hamas time to smuggle in more weapons.

They don't give a shit about those people, which leads to the moral delimna of what to do about hostages yet again.

Contrast with hamas who forces people to stay as meat shields.

I truly do not like the way israel acts as a state, but mischaracterizing the nature of this conflict due to an inability to detach political reasoning and emotionality is small brain.
