One startup-esque company I had joined (I think it was like 4-5 people when I got hired) wanted someone who as close to age with us, late 20s, very early 30s at the most. Any CVs they got where the people were deemed to be "too old" were simply thrown out and never contacted.
Was this discriminatory as hell? Absolutely. Was it illegal? I don't know if my country has laws banning ageist discrimination during hiring, but probably. But can you prove that they did it in a court of law? Not really.
