It’s a different model for sure. It seems better at one shot and significantly worse at conversation IMO.  But better at instructions overall. My guess is this model has less training wheels. In other words less openai prompt steering and less multi models on the backend. This may truly be a single model.

I think for the original gpt4 they over engineered a multi gpt architecture. Once they had tons of user training data they were able to stick that knowledge into a single model.  Gpt4o is a good model IMO with the right prompting. In my tests its just as good at general reasoning as gpt4 while being faster and cheaper

I will say gpt4o and gpt4 are still terrible at reasoning but they’re the best I’ve tested. i have a prompt guides the AI to solve it by architecting code and then running the code to find the answer. The idea was to offload reasoning to a logic api but that still often failed due to not designing code that solves the problem effectively.

One thing people forget is this is not a real person. Real people walk around with context and culture. You need to give these models the correct context for them to respond effectively
