Though I understand the sentiment, this is far from the truth. Yes, China has grown significantly in the last couple of decades, but they are far from taking the the global world super power role. Although, through the use of state owned media and very tightly controlled communication efforts by the Chinese government (i.e. the Chinese firewall blocking most outside internet traffic to the people of China), it’s likely if you asked the average Chinese person in Beijing who the most influential world super power is, they would likely tell you it is China. The power struggle mainly lies in the industry of the two countries. The US has labeled its self as the proverbial, ‘poster child’ of industry and capitalism, but now finds its self in a situation where most of the industry it has comes from China. However, these relationships are not set in stone. China has a false sense of domination over the states, the states would come out of a trade war with China in a much better condition than China, however American pride and the fear of loosing global trade dominance would scare the American away from doing such a trade war. That being said, with tensions heating up more and more in the South China Sea, it is very likely that the American are going to favor a more domestic industry approach. Side note as well, almost all the industry in China is out sourced American industry, China is not the only other country that can manufacture American goods, and China knows that - something to think about.
