I think it's sensible to hedge.

Just be aware that online echo chambers have a vested interest in more people putting more in, so it's not a great place for advice.

Traditional funds aren't "bad".

* Whilst traditional investments might lag. They aren't terrible. I have a lump sum in a boring tracker fund and it's up 69% (really, lol) since placing it in 2019. The line goes up slow and steady, it dipped a few months after the pandemic, but soon recovered. * My traditional fund now earns more than you are able to save each month. I'm not sure about your currency but my £100k should earn about 6k a year. £500 a month. That could just be a "free" £500 a month investment into crypto. That's more than I suspect many here can buy each month. And that's on top of my normal savings. What a great place to be! * My 6 figure pension fund returned more than my wife earned in a year just in the last 6 months alone! Now that pretty good, right. Because of how pensions work here I have no choice to invest that in crypto. It has to go into funds (no crypto etf here, yet). It's already earning more than a worker can earn. I'm not going to be poor. * My grandfather sold his business in the 1950s and lead a very nice life living off the share portfolio he set up. The shares have long since paid for themselves and still pay out a handsome sum to my retired dad who inherited it. This portfolio will never run out. It's backed by 1000s of workers bound to get up and work every day.

And on the other side, crypto isn't without risk.

* You might have a DCA buy of $hundreds as do many of us. You will retire and flip that to a DCA sells of $thousands. Now that *only* works if we can all find new buyers. Our community of buyers will become sellers. We need the next generation to buy in and put more in than ever before. We've simply not seen that sort of selling pressure on the price in bitcoin. We've seen it in other coins, and they're dead now. * Crypto does well if you zoom out but I can't help thinking the arguments are getting weaker. Initially people put in some beer money for a laugh. A few dollars. This went to $tens a year. Then $tens a month, then $100s and more people got interested so it's easy to see how it ramped. But now it's been all over the internet for years. Years. It's still niche. I get how it went 1000x historically. But to do that again? * If you had invested a lump sum in bitcoin at the end of 2021 you'd have made nothing. Time in the market is irrelevant as bitcoin does not generate wealth over time. It's just the price you buy and the price you sell. A fund will have made you money. The shares pay out money over time as they generate cash. You don't even have to sell. My grandfather never did.

My advice?

Hedge! Diversify!

Main into a safe secure investment so your retirement is safe. No need to be greedy. Sounds like you earn enough to be comfortable for sure.

Then hedge with some crypto, property, fine wine, who knows what. If one of them moons then you get some extra money in retirement to enjoy. And if they don't, your whole life isn't fucked. With that approach you never lose. Perhaps you're not as rich as you could have been. But you're not screwed and thats nice.

I bought into crypto in 2015 so I've already won. I don't have a vested interest in needing it to go 100x again. I already got that. I sold some this year but have plenty left.

I have a mix and it feels really good. But it's up to you my friend.
