So sad about this horrible war. I hope the young people I met in Myanmar before the pandemic have been able to escape the draft. Some of them may be in the resistance. I think about them all so often.

It was a scary place to visit even then: my partner was taken away at the airport for questioning and security/immigration(?) tried to get me to go somewhere too. I politely stated over and over it would be rude for me not to wait for Official X, who was coming to greet me. Thankfully, X showed up to everyone’s surprise and my partner was suddenly released.
