This is one part Chinese dumping and one part European structural non-competitiveness.

A huge portion of this issues can be explained by the fact that European (and UK) industry pays more than double what Chinese counterparts pay for electricity.

In theory the proper remedy is the carbon tax that the EU has been promoting for the last five years.

But unfortunately it unlikely BTI be applied to China.

Absent that, I don’t see any way China and keep building coal-fired power, Europe pursues net zero and there is any ability for Europe to compete across the wide range of products that are energy intensive.

Economies of scale and cheaper labor costs compound this. China’s increasing dominance of the developing country supply chain is also a factor.
