The understanding I have so far is an average 10% growth in an index fund. So if I had 100k laying around I'm assuming that would be 10k the first year increasing more. I am not factoring in inflation. That seems to be discouraging.
If I make at least 110k a year, what is the best plan of action to get wealthy? In my mind, having 100k compound every year is a goal at this moment. Obviously we should dream more but I'm thinking if I'm already making 100k working 2080 hours a year, it would be nice to make 100k doing nothing.
It seems so far that from what I'm hearing, to just put at least 15% in 401k and max out Roth IRA. But those things are received when I retire in 30 years.
If I really push myself and work 50 hours a week, instead of 40, I could make an extra $44k a year (I have coworkers who do this constantly). But in my mind, working 50 hours is not worth 150k, I'd rather do 40 hours at 110k (because its not set up as doing an extra full day shift, it's an extra 2 hours each evening).
Here's the idea I'm wondering, putting in as much money into an s&p index fund as I can, like if I have 40k, put that inside, another 10k? put it in. Until I have at least 100k.
But are there better places to put tens of thousands of dollars when an index fund? I know you can maybe start up a business but I am not smart nor savvy.
