You’re absolutely right. In my anecdotal experience woman are completely willing to forgo relationships with men whose goal is to have children even if that man can be a provider for her and said children. Many women want to travel and do hedonistic pursuits and gain modern day status rather than be responsible for a family. The cultural priorities are changing and economic standard of living is a very minor or nonexistent part.

The reverse correlation between income and fertility is proof enough. I would be glad to revisit my opinion if there’s evidence this isn’t the case controlling for other variables, beyond surveys, I don’t believe what believe say as much as what they do.
