Content Data

This page contains data entry 55126 from the Axioma AXP content repository. The structured data below represents the complete record for this entry.

ELI5:

A block filled with tens of thousands of transactions takes the same computational effort to mine as an empty block does. (Empty blocks occur sometimes due to nuances in how mining works).

The miners are not computing transactions. Any cheap raspberry pi computer can do that. Miners are providing security against bad actors trying to revert transactions and “double spend”.

Sometimes mining difficulty use goes *down* when miners go offline and the system self-adjusts to keep block tiles at a 10 minute average.

There is correlation between adoption and energy use. Since higher prices will entice more mining. But that’s not a direct relationship.
