Exactly. I don't want to be in constant combat with my computer to do things that would take me 10 seconds on Windows without googling esoteric errors to fix something incredibly basic.

I've tried to switch to Linux on and off for 15 years, and I'm completely with you, the frustrations part has barely gotten better. Imo Linux is ~5-10 years away from legit being usable.

What they really need is to merge WINE and Proton into the Linux kernel so that Windows installers can be double clicked to launch like normal, they need to fix WINE so that you can install global dependencies(like say visual studio packages) so that they work across apps.

Not this random WINE container prefix bs which is how it works now. They need to make it 1:1 to the process on Windows.

WINE and Proton have come a long way since Steam OS launched and Valve started seriously contributing to both WINE and Proton's development, but until the process for installing apps is identical to Windows, it's a complete no go for me. I *hate* terminal for installing programs. I shouldnt have to touch the command line even once to install basic programs.

Nor should I have to deal with random permission errors constantly. Just give me a Linux OS that works and doesn't get in my way, and I'd be happy to switch. But it just isn't even close to as seamless as Windows is.
