Honestly it’s both. At one time the president’s roll was almost entirely on foreign policy and as a check on the legislature. Now the legislature waits for the president to propose the budget so they can use it as a negotiating point or just to take them cross the coals. The president”s budget should be perceived as an ask of the legislature for what the parts of government falling under the office’s preview need.

The president is also labeled as “the leader of the party” for whichever one the president aligns. So it’s easy to see them as setting the agenda for Congress. But Congress is, or is supposed to be, an equal branch. But because of these little erosions people think that the president is more in control of the knobs of their lives than the president really is.

And yes the economy is far more complex than people want to believe, because to truly understand it you have to dedicate your life to it, and they give it maybe 10 minutes a day if they aren’t people active on forums like this.

And evolutionarily speaking our brains have not nearly caught up to the level of globalism we exist in. We still act and think extremely tribal in nature, which runs very counter to the idea of global success and the good of all.
