Why would it not be? I feel like you are getting caught up in a polarized political idea of conservatism, but there is a more ordinary meaning that just conveys being averse to change in some area. It doesn't have to mean right-wing, regressive, overly restrictive, or not forward-thinking.
In this case, being apprehensive about a new technology is pretty much definitionally conservative - it involves wanting to place limits and regulations around that technology to restrict how much and how quickly it could change the status quo.
It's an entirely reasonable position that takes a slow and careful (i.e., conservative) approach to this new technology. It's a position I would identify with, and I wouldn't be described as politically conservative at all. I would say something like I am *conservative* *with respect to the regulation of AI*.
If you *don't* think it is conservative, I suspect you are just using a different definition.
