I'd be fine with paying more for solar panels and high tech stuff if it meant producing it locally and cutting china out of global supply chains.

Ironically our standard of living actually wouldn't change even if the prices do go up. Physical items have become so cheap now that over the decades they have come to consume an ever dwindling portion of our income. As a result people have more disposable income to throw into property and it's driven up property prices. If everyone paid more for TVs and solar panels we would still have all those things but people would have less income to tip into the property market. The stock of property is fixed so it isn't going anywhere as a result of less money being tipped into it, but it would be priced less.

Yes paying more for TVs and solar panels would have people grumbling about cost of living pressures. But they do that now, even while having more stuff and higher standards of living than at any time in history.
