It's generally considered that it will be an absolute decimation because they've put off calling an election for far too long - and legally they'd have to by about December anyway.
They know they're going to get trounced but clung on far longer than was ever sensible. Their schemes are all about to collapse - post-Brexit customs, illegal immigration plans with Rwanda, all the stuff that they promised to "fix".
Additionally, it looks like we'll have to nationalise some of the utilities through outright disregard by the regulators (driven by politicians), not to mention some heavy pushing of the rules with the BBC (putting a government sycophant in charge of it) and GB News (outright breaches of political reporting rules - basically it's a channel MADE to appeal to the racists, nationalists, etc. by the current government and their cronies).
Basically they know they're going to lose, dramatically, and now the time is approaching when they have to have an election, they're going to bow out slightly earlier - just before everything fails, so they can then leave the following government in the lurch and say that THEY broke everything and run up the bills by having to nationalise utilities, and so on and so forth. The following government will HAVE to raise taxes to fix all the shit they caused, and they don't want to be the ones to do it.
They ran up the country's credit cards for over a decade, the bill is about to land on the doormat, and if they run now, they can point fingers at the "new" government when it comes in and things start to fail horrendously, and then lumber them with all the repayments to fix it.
