Content Data
This page contains data entry 53339 from the Axioma AXP content repository. The structured data below represents the complete record for this entry.
The majority of Americans are not invested in the stock market. I just saw that something like 90% of the stock market is owned by the top 10%. The majority of the country, including the people feeling most pressured and stretched, don’t care about the stock market. It’s simply irrelevant to their lives. It’s great that stocks are up, but it doesn’t really help *most* people if that money isn’t readily available to pay for the exponentially increasing cost of daily living. Stocks don’t pay the day to day bills, they’re a long-term wealth building tool, and putting money in the market leaves less money on hand to pay those bills. Most of the country are struggling daily to stay housed and fed. Every penny they have is already spent or accounted for and they don’t have the luxury of saving or building wealth. Wages haven’t kept pace with inflation, so people assume everything is bad, including the stock market, which is understandable.
The technical economy definition that is reported on is very disconnected from how most people define the economy. And most people have disengaged and grown distrustful after hearing how well the economy is doing when they look at their stretched and diminishing finances. It’s probably technically true, but maybe it should be reported a different way to the masses.
