I make $7.80 an hour at one of my jobs. That's not minimum wage, so obviously doesn't count!

Your argument doesn't really hold up when Minimum wage has been $7.25 since 2009. Making $8 an hour doesn't really go very far but it would be "above minimum". On paper that's a 10.3% increase over minimum, which is huge. In practice, it basically does nothing with the current prices of things.
