Russia isn't an enemy. An enemy is one you bomb. Russia is a rival. Nothing more. Nothing less. Russia has absolutely leverage that the US cannot denied. It has a significant grain, oil, and nuclear weapons all which is a fundamental part of international relations. Part of being an adult is understanding reality. Russia won't disappear. It is within US interest for peace. US is primary a commercial/naval super power. Trade makes us stronger. Investing in ground war in Eastern Europe doesn't serve our objectives. Our objectives is trade. The US isn't an empire in need of constant expansion. Russia expanding into Ukraine doesn't change anything. Not a single trade deal with EU would change. If anything, it make European countries pay their agreed upon military guidelines. Good thing for the US in my view.
Russian casualties are a bit misleading. Because the neocons in charge won't let you know, Ukraine is suffering tons of casualties it's just kept from you. Allowing Ukrainians and Russians to die on mast is a bad thing, even if you hold Machiavellian views that justifies the lost of human lives to weaken some oil oligarchs. It will just cause militaries to become even more desperate in their tactics. Worst case it could destabilize Russia that balkanize and warlords gaining nuclear weapons which is the number one point of US objectives. Ukraine keeping a few KM of soil means nothing to the US.
