1. People act like "poor people struggling" = recession...but poor folks are struggling in boom times and recessions alike. Currently, they are doing better in important, demonstrable ways than they were a few years ago. Acknowledging that the economic circumstances are pretty decent relative to other periods in our recent history doesn't mean you don't support the working-class. There's nothing progressive or pro-worker about spreading innumeracy and misinformation.
2. Perception is objectively and demonstrably unmoored from reality. If we went by perception of crime rather than the actual crime rates we'd think that violent crime had been increasing for decades when in reality it has been falling, precipitously for decades...hitting new record low after record low (with a predictable upward bump during the pandemic).
