According to webmd there are 371K deaths annually resulting from misdiagnosis. There are also graveyards full dead people because patients believed their doctor when they said things like "dont worry, oxy isn't addictive, lets up your dose." Anecdotally my sister was misdiagnosed for nearly a decade by several doctors until a friend suggested "it sounds like you have X autoimmune disorder."

Your doctor is an expert who knows more than you but they are not God and its foolish to blindly follow everything they tell you. You need to be your own advocate and be willing to challenge them/force them to defend their diagnosis to you.
