If you dig into the tables on recent reports, it's pretty much all housing, insurance, and transportation services (that last one much more significant for PPI).

Elevated rates may well be propagating inflation in these categories.

The Fed is not in an enviable position. Holding rates where they are will probably sustain the historically typical 3-4% YoY CPI increase for the forseeable future. Cutting will probably create a lot of wealth, and who knows if that becomes spending that would maintain CPI at that level or drive it even higher.

But, if the economy and markets want to drive upward in the face of the current status quo, fine by me.
