The difference between US and Israel is that Talibans aren't living right next to the US border and being an everpresent, everyday threat to your average American civilian. No one wants a terrorist state at their doorstep, for obvious reasons.

Don't get me wrong, a Palestinian state should absolutely be the end goal. But that state needs to be able to peacefully coexist with its' neighbors, which will never happen if Hamas stays in power. In fact, an independent Palestinian state ruled by Hamas or any similar body would be the worst possible thing that could happen to Palestinians, because when - not if, but when - the next attack happens it won't be just an act of terrorism. It will be an act of war by a sovereign state, held responsible both for the safety of its citizens and for the actions of their military in the eyes of international law. How do you think that would end up for the Palestinian?
