everyone is different. Everyone’s life situation is different. Everyone’s risk tolerance is different. Everyone’s free cash and needs are different.

I was pretty surprised recently to give my sister and brother-in-law financial advice and I ended up basically saying get some ETFs and never look at them for 20 years. Because I realized that simply fit who they were.

I’ve given my parents advice in the past and of course they were ETFs.

That said, if you have more risk tolerance, if you have more time, if you have more inclination, it’s possible to beat the market. And when people say beat the market, they’re really saying beat VOO or the S&P 500.

Can you consistently beat VOO? The answer for most hedge fund managers, most financial advisors, is no. That’s been proven pretty conclusively. Therefore, the advice of going ETS is pretty sound advice for the majority of people on earth.

I have consistently beaten VOO. I enjoy investing. I enjoyed a lot. I also have an enormous amount of spare time because I am a sickly person in the hospital. My situation is not your situation.

You gotta find what you’re comfortable with and go with that. While betting individual stocks can do much, much better than ETFs, if you do it poorly, it would do much, much worse. And if you’re gonna give yourself an ulcer watching the market fluctuate, then definitely stay away from individual stock picking
