Warnock and Ossof were fantastic candidates and Abrams influence was crucial as well. But it also took Donald Trump telling his voters that the runoffs were rigged that cost them both runoff seats in 2020. It was also trumps influence that gave the RNC Herschel Walker as a candidate in 2022. Perhaps one of the worst senate candidates in recent memory, completely scandal plagued, and walker still managed to pull in 48% of the vote. If Trump had allowed the primaries to play out without forcing through walker as his preferred candidate, they could have easily won it.
I don’t want to discredit Warnock, Ossof, or Abrams at all. They did phenomenal work but it took all that work plus Trump and the RNC fumbling the ball in so many different ways. If you had told me in 2018 that Georgia would go blue in both senate seats and the presidential race I would have laughed at you.
