I am looking to start investing on my own and would like some advice on where to start.

I’m 28, living in the US. Employed making around 60k/yr.

My objective is to start saving more for retirement. I max out my retirement plan with my employer, but I am going to be finished paying off my student loans within the next couple months and want to re-direct that money (~800/month) into investing more for retirement.

I would like for the investment to be relatively safe. I’ve been looking at index funds and other similar stocks that have the long history of growth over long periods of time.

With retirement in mind, I don’t need this money for 30+ years.

I don’t have any holdings other than my retirement plan through my employer.

Is it smart to take that $800/month and just continuously buy shares of stocks/index funds month over month?

What are some stocks/index funds that I should look in to when deciding how to build my portfolio for retirement?
