Billions of dollars are pouring into AI research but so far no one has found a good "killer app" that can generate a profit stream to pay that back.

What I'm worried about is that the real killer apps will be real killer apps - military AI. That's an area where the stakes are high - national survival -, the money flows freely, and a few hallucinations are more tolerated than in something like tech support.

If a financial-services AI managing my investments does something that costs me lots of money they'll have a lawsuit on their hands. If an AI fighter-bomber or AI soldier kills a bunch of innocent civilians, ho hum, it's just another day at the office for the military.
