Hm I'm not so sure about the south Dakota thing you said? Median income there is 37000.
From Redfin. In April 2024, home prices in South-Dakota were up 0.07% compared to last year, selling for a median price of $314,700
How can 90% of people there afford a 300k house on 37k salary? Rent, car payments, loans, eats all of that up before they can even save enough.
Im not saying things didn't get cheaper, they did, but once again I restate this, even the article that stated a 12% increase in real wages mentions this: these people are still struggling even with the increase. Life is not so easy right now.
