Well, I guess I do agree with that. Most service and trade jobs exist because people don't like to do them. The trade people doing 'small' work for homeowners are indeed quite vulnerable to supply and demand fluctuations, like you describe. And while that is far from all the work of a tradesman, it does impact them, as those displaced trade people will also try to compete for construction and big maintenance work.
In this way, it indeed doesn't differ that much from other occupations, I agree.
