I'm saying that right now it separates the identity of "poor innocent Palestinians" and "evil Hamas terrorists" in the eyes of a lot of people. Even though the vast majority of Palestinians would happily have Hamas as their leaders.

If there was a state of Palestine, run legally by Hamas, then the attack would be an attack by Palestine on Israel. Then there's no poor innocent Palestines and the Palestinians would rightfully be seen as partially responsible for the actions of their nation and their astoundingly popular terrorist government.
