Naivete is palpable: "Good guys never deceive". They don't need to believe that Russia already launched weaponized satellite. It's enough to say that they believe it. How would you check it? Launch your own satellite to closely inspect the Russian one? Moreover, every satellite capable of maneuvering (and every long-lived satellite in LEO is capable of maneuvering to keep its orbit stable) can be used as a weapon by changing its orbit to collide with another satellite. So, what they said is technically true.
BTW, USA 326 classified satellite was approached by Cosmos 2558 in 2022, but back then US chose not to call it weapon. How current situation with Cosmos 2576 and USA 314 differs is anyone's guess.
