Yup, this is the issue. 99% of a movement is a clear, concise, catchy name that gets the point across without room to misinterpret it.

"Defund the Police" sounds like a call for anarchy, not a reallocation of funding away from war larping into community services and better training.

It was doomed to fail from the first moment by name alone. Granted, it is catchy, but the name fails at every other point. It is not clear, and is ripe for misinterpretation(which the news media pushed).

This is why simple names, like "Autism Speaks" or "Save the children" can get so much traction for their organization while doing pretty much nothing noteworthy. Who would argue against talking about autism, or saving kids? Except they are borderline useless orgs that waste funding while doing next to nothing except fellate themselves. Same situation for "drain the swamp," it's catchy, easy to understand(albeit weird since swamps are critical parts of nature and definitely should not be drained), and it's pretty hard to mistake the intent.

Good movements rarely seem to name themselves well, and it almost always shoots them in the foot.
